Morwyn Brebner is a well-known playwright, television writer, and producer. Born in Cardiff, Wales and raised in Ottawa, Brebner is a graduate of the National Theatre School of Canada. Her first play, Music for Contortionist premiered at Tarragon Theatre in 2000.  The musical Little Mercy’s First Murder (which she co-wrote with Paul Sportelli and Jay Turvey) followed, garnering six Dora Mavor Moore Awards including Outstanding New Musical. The Optimists was shortlisted as a finalist for the Governor General’s Award for English-language drama, and Love Among the Russians and The President both premiered at the Shaw Festival. Brebner was also the English translator of Evelyne de la Cheneliere’s plays Strawberries in January, Bashir Lazhar and Public Disorder and Serge Boucher’s Motel Helene. Brebner is the creator behind CBC’s hit TV series Coroner, for which she acted as showrunner for the first three seasons. She co-created Saving Hope (CTV/ION) and was executive producer and showrunner for seasons 1-3. She also co-created the ABC/Global TV drama series Rookie Blue. Most recently, Brebner was honoured as 2021 Showrunner of the Year by the Writers Guild of Canada.
