Reckoning is a triptych of three short plays: Witness is a dance-movement piece featuring a Truth and Reconciliation Commissioner who unravels as he confronts the brutal testimony of residential school survivors. In Daughter, the daughter of a teacher who was accused of rape seduces her father’s accuser. And Survivor is a virtuoso solo piece about a man preparing to commit suicide as a protest against the insufficiencies of the reconciliation process.

About the Authors
ARTICLE 11 is helmed by Andy Moro and Tara Beagan. Founded in 2013, ARTICLE 11 channels Moro and Beagan’s mutual desire to pursue the creation of live performance works with a holistic approach and a rigorous attack. The company is named for the 11th Article of the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples.
Born in Niitsitapi country, Tara Beagan is a proud Ntlaka’pamux and Irish “Canadian” halfbreed. She has written more than twenty plays, and also directs and performs. Currently, she co-helms ARTICLE 11 with her most cherished collaborator, favourite artist and true love, Andy Moro. ARTICLE 11, now based in Mohkintsis, has brought Indigenous Activist art works to the NAC, the ROM, Kingcome Inlet, Kamloops, Winnipeg, Saskatoon, Calgary’s City Hall, the Edinburgh Fringe, and Wellington, Aotearoa (NZ). In 2021, Tara won the prestigious Siminovitch Prize in Theatre for her body of work.
Andy Moro is a mixed-blood multi-disciplinary artist and an accomplished theatre designer. Moro co-directs the Indigenous Activism Arts organization ARTICLE 11, named for the 11th Article of the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples, with partner Tara Beagan. Reckoning, a play about the effects of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission, was a collaborative effort by Beagan and Moro, and is credited to ARTICLE 11. Other A11 projects include an extensive tour of Beagan’s Deer Woman, designed and directed by Moro, to New Zealand, Australia, and the Edinburgh Festival. Moro is a multi-award winner and nominee and has twice been named among Toronto’s NOW magazine’s Top-10 theatre artists.
